News

Quiet month in some respects, just two new starts, both RV14's.

The LAA Rally started September off to a great start with 104 RV's in attendance, where were the other 250? The weekend saw 833 aircraft fly in and 4000 visitors. Nigel and the marshalling team did the usual great job and we managed to get most of the RV's together in a couple of rows near the front.

Congratulations to Chris Marsh… He was commended in the Best Kit Built Category at the LAA Rally, and won Best RV too, for his beautiful blue and silver RV-9, G-ORVS. Mark Hughes was also commended in Best Kitbuilt, for his RV-7A G-JCIH.

Nigel from the North Weald marshalling team, who do a fair bit to help us, has asked I put this on the site for a visit to the Rougham Museum. I'm sure it will be of interest to a few of us at least.

Been a bit busy to keep up with the site with holidays, wedings and Fly-ins. Some how I ended up as Chairman of the Scottish Aero Club and all that entails. Anyway this month we have another RV7 started and an imported RV12 is back in the air with a G-reg. The Glenforsa RV fly-in on the 27th and the Rally the following week so still a busy few weeks ahead.

Great news, RV6 G-RRRV has flown on the 17-June. This would be the 100th RV6 to fly with a G- reg. Well done Christopher and all the best with the rest of the test flights.

The first of the IFR clearences for permit aircraft are starting to filter through, no surprise 3 of the first 5 are RV's. Good to see all the hard work is starting to pay off. Well done all.

2 More RV7's cleared to Fly G-RVHD & G-DSRV just in time for summer! Also another 7 imported G-OGRL soon to be added to the fleet.

The fly-in season is also upon us and I have today had notification of the 13th Van's Club De France fly-in on June 16-18th at Roanne (LFLO). More details in the events listing here.

There is also the North Weald event above and several other RV Fly-in's kicking off with Popham. There is a Duxford LAA bonus day on 5th August and also a RV bonus day date TBA.

RV fly-in to Perth Aug 18/20th. RV fly-in at Glenforsa Mull 27th Aug so there's a few on the list already.

Let's hope for a decent spell of weather over the summer months and with any luck will see a good turnout at these events. See you there.

British-born RV pilot and environmentalist Jeremy Rowsell has made history this week by flying RV9 G-CDZD across Australia using a conventional fuel blended with fuel derived from plastic waste.

As of 2nd Dec the CAA have approved the removal of Day VFR restriction on LAA Permit aircraft on a case by case basis. News release here, with the LAA tech leaflets TL2.27 and TL2.28. This has been a long fought battle by several volunteers several from the RV community. Thanks all for your hard work.

This years British Air Racing Champions are Mark and Joanne Turner in his RV6. FaceBook link There are quite a few RV's taking part in air racing this year, More Details.

Van arriving at the LAA Rally with Roger Hopkinson on Thursday evening after flying into Heathrow that afternoon.

Van held two sessions in the speakers corner which were full houses and on the Friday night he and his wife had dinner with some of the UK RV & EU owners.

LAA rally, 4000 visitors and 500 aircraft flew in. 55 RV's were in attendance on the Friday with a further 10 arriving on the Saturday and Sunday. Not quite the 130 that were booked in but the weather was typically Brittish. The Van stand had a steady stream of visitors as did the metal work stand in the homebuild tent.
